Happy New Year World! While Christmas came and went as did 2013. With the New Year comes new beginnings and a chance to reflect on the previous year. 2013 was an amazing year for FoldIT Creations and it was all due to the endless support of friends, family and strangers from across the globe. This year I’ve shipped to China, Japan, Australia, France, Mexico, Ukraine and just about every corner of this not-so-flat Earth. My jewellery has seen more countries than I have at this point.
Toronto is filled with snow and cold weather these days so I am spending a lot more time inside and that means a lot more time creating in my little workshop (aka living room). I am leaning more toward the fine silver line these days. While I love the colours and prints of the Japanese paper, the silver is something special and allows me to preform a little modern day alchemy by marrying mystical and healing gemstones with animal totems. I really love it. I have also acquired a metal stamping kit this Christmas thanks to a very special santa clause who has been creeping the items in my Etsy cart.
Anyway, enough chatter. Here are some pics I took of the things I have been making recently and things now up in the Etsy shop.
Hey all!
So I have been busy playing with my new kiln these last few weeks and learning to set stones in my fine silver origami jewelry. I am quite satisfied with the result and will be selling these new creations at several upcoming pop-up shops and markets here in Toronto. Here is the FoldIT Creations holiday line-up. Come out and have a browse and find some stocking stuffers and great handmade gifts made by local Toronto vendors.
The Toronto Etsy Street Team will be holding its first Christmas Marketplace this
December 14th at the Church of Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields
(103 Bellevue Ave @ College St. in the Kensington Market neighbourhood)
Finally after what seemed like eternity waiting for my PMC sheet silver and Kiln which were held up in customs at the Canada-US border, they arrived over the weekend and I didn’t waste a minute. I was pretty happy to get them photographed and up in the shop before Sunday was over. The first pair of fine silver earrings and necklace sold within 2 hours of posting the listing. I am still waiting on my cabochon gemstones from Thailand and a few other tools before I can begin setting stones in my work. Check out the etsy page for more.
The Toronto Etsy Street Team Springtime Market is just a little over a week away and I am working like a mad man! I have my display idea solidified and most of my cases, display fixtures and frames purchased. It’s a matter of figuring out the dimensions of the space and how I will lay everything out. The theme of my booth will be Mid-Century Oriental Curiosity Shop. I envision a traveller returning from Asia with wonderful curiosities to exhibit. I cant wait! If you are in the Greater Toronto Area on Saturday June 1st, 2013, come out to 918 Bathrust (just north of Honest Ed’s) and support the wonderful local artisans of Toronto.
I am really excited to be working on some higher end products with sterling silver and gemstones for the Etsy Show. I am also working on a new line of origami pendants and sterling silver chains. It feels good to be able to offer my customers a range of products that meets their needs and desires. Here are the first two chains and pendants that I made and sold in the FoldIT Creations Etsy Shop last week:
Something that also excited me quite a bit this week is the recognition and support I have been getting from fellow Etzians. I am continually surprised and thankful by the feedback I get from other Etsy sellers and enthusiasts about my creations. Everyone has days where they doubt what they are doing and its moments like these that validate and reinforce the pride with which you work and create. Handmade enthusiast blogger Ellie of My Little Chickadee’s Blog kindly featured my tiny coral crane earrings on her Pick of the Day section this week. Pay her blog a visit and follow her across all social media platforms, she has a lot of great things going on.
